Guide in school

Environment for Studying | Institution and equipment | Special Character | Activities of the school year

Environment for Studying

  • There are 17 universities/colleges including Tohoku University, and 56 vocational schools around Sendai. There are about 82,000 students in these institutions of higher education (in 2005), which is the fourth in Japan, ranking after Kyoto, Hukuoka and Tokyo( percent of population). In addition, the ratio of graduates to population is the second best in Japan, ranking next to Kyoto. That is why Sendai is called an academic city.

Environment for Living

  • The urban area is much more convenient than Tokyo, because the shopping streets and business district composed of administrative organs/ public facilities and banks concentrate in a compact area.
  • Most of our students go to school by bicycle from their apartment. It takes about 15 minutes, and it is easy.
  • Although it is 1 hour and 40 minutes by express from Tokyo, the prices are law and much more comfortable than Tokyo.
  • The house rents are 40 percent lower than wards in Tokyo.
  • There are large super markets and other stores, and it is really convenient for shopping.

Natural Environment

  • Sendai has the richest natural environment in the cities granted special rights by government.
It takes about 35minutes to the nearest hot spring town, and 1 hour to the nearest beach or ski area by bus from the Sendai station.
Please enjoy food culture of Sendai. The nature near here, the sea and the mountain, bring us rich food.
